Adoption FAQS

All kittens under the age of 6 months must be adopted in pairs or there must be a young companion animal already in the home. Exceptions may be made by the adoption counselor on a case by case basis, based on what is in the best interest of the particular kitten and the circumstances. If you would like to adopt one or two of our “fabulous” kittens, please complete an adoption application.

Kittens/cats that are deemed to be a part of a bonded pair, will NOT be separated. If a kitten/cat is bonded to another, this will be noted in each bio.

The adoption fee for a kitten under 6 months old is $150.00. For a pair of young kittens, the adoption fee is $250.00. Six months to a year old is $125.00 and over 1 year is $75.00.

The adoption fee includes deworming, flea treatment, combo test, FVRCP vaccinations, rabies vaccination, alter, and microchip.

Kittens must be a minimum of 8 weeks of age and have had at least (1) FVRCP vaccination before they are available for adoption (Foster to Adopt). Available kittens/cats will be posted on our Petfinder pages and may be found on our website and in the Adoptables Photo Album on our Facebook page.

The adoption process can not be completed until the kitten has been altered. This will occur when the kitten is approximately 5 pounds and around 5 to 6 months of age. Until then, the contract is a Foster to Adopt Contract with the kitten remaining the property of Back Street Kittens. Adopters must be willing to work with Back Street Kittens to schedule and keep vet appointments for vaccinations and alter. Any vetting done without Back Street Kittens prior approval will be the financial responsibility of the adopter.

An application for adoption must be completed by all potential adopters and is the first step in the adoption process. The adoption team will verify the information given and approve or decline the application. You do not have to choose a kitten/cat before completing the application. Getting approved does not obligate you to adopt from Back Street Kittens. Once you are approved and have chosen a new furry family member, BSK will deliver the kitten to your home. Be advised that if you are declined, it does not mean that the adoption team believes you will be a bad kitty parent. It just means that for whatever reason(s), you don’t meet our requirements. The decision of the adoption team is final.
