Our First Rescue

On Monday, April 22, I received a message that a feral cat and her babies were living under a vacant house in Sugar Hill, GA. The people who had seen them reached out to Cat Rangers for assistance but they were unable to help. Instead of just saying no, they contacted us and asked if we could help. I contacted Hannah and got the details and told her we would help but I didn’t know to what extent. On Tuesday, I was able to take the afternoon off work and I drove up there with the intent to check out momma and see if and how feral she is and to check on the age and well being of the kittens. I knew from a picture that there was a calico kitten along with a few black ones. Upon arrival, I opened up the porch access and saw a pile of black kittens. Momma and the calico were nowhere to be found. I called to the kittens and the 2 that were on the top of the pile immediately ran to me, screaming like they were starving. There were 2 other kitties on the bottom of the pile. Unfortunately, one was dead and had been for awhile. I thought the other one was also dead but I picked him up to check. He gave me the smallest little squeek! That was it, I couldn’t leave him and the other 2 there to die. I scooped them up, put them in the carrier that I always have in my car and raced to our vet. They immediately took them to the back and began working on them. The one kitten died 3 times while in the vets office but came back. All 3 had to be warmed up, they were given flea treatment and their first dewormer, a little food and were sent home with me. We have 3 little boys (Gonzo, tux, Thor, white spot on face and Lopez, black panther) who we guess were about 3 1/2 weeks old. They are all doing well, eating kitten canned food and just starting to learn what the litter box is! They are getting more playful everyday. You can keep up with them on our FB page at Back Street Kittens. UPDATE: Lopez was adopted 8/17/19
